The Product

What are Vere shelves made out of?

The shelves are made from top grade 18mm birch plywood. The link shelves and rails are made from 18mm MDF:

  • Birch Plywood – Birch ply is a fine-grained solid wood product that has a light, warm colour. Birch ply is made by bonding thin layers of birch wood together. Each layer of wood, or ply, is oriented with its grain running at right angles to the adjacent layer in order to reduce the shrinkage and improve the strength of the finished piece. The panels are sanded on both sides and their surface is smooth, hard and durable. Birch plywood is characterized by excellent strength and stiffness properties, and therefore it performs very well in applications demanding high strength and rigidity.
  • MDF – Medium density fiberboard (MDF) is a high grade, composite material that performs better than solid wood in many areas. Made from recycled wood fibers and resin, MDF is machine dried and pressed to produce dense, stable sheets. MDF is more stable than solid wood and stands up better to changes in heat and humidity.
How are the shelves finished?
  • The shelves are finished with a clear polyurethane spray on varnish that is moisture resistant. This finish has a satin sheen and is very smooth to the touch.
  • The link shelves and rails are finished with a satin white spray, resulting in a flawless satin sheen surface that is resistant to marking and can be wiped clean with a soft damp cloth.
What are my colour choices?

Vere shelving comes standard with clear polyurethane spray on varnish, which highlights the fine grain of the light coloured wood.  The link shelves and rails come standard in white.

What is a link shelf?

A link shelf is a simple, flat (no vertical sides) shelf that connects between two birch ply shelves. These link shelves add further opportunities to customize your set up as they can connect at three different levels, and fit either inside the vertical side of a single shelf, or between two shelves placed the correct distance apart. This component turns a single shelf into a double shelf, perfect for slim line technology. They have been designed to make cord assess easy as they allow the perfect space between the back of the shelf and your wall. Genius!

How do the link shelves connect?

The underside of each link shelf has a set of recesses that align with small steel plugs that screw into pre drilled holes in the vertical birch ply shelf sides. All necessary connector hardware is supplied with your pack. It is very easy to use and, like everything Vere is strong, stable and beautiful.

I have old powdery brick walls, will this be ok?

The strength of your shelves depends on the strength with which they are attached to your wall. Old houses, which sometimes have soft powdery walls, will not hold the rails as strongly as new brick or concrete will. We recommend applying common sense in this instance, or contact us for more specific feedback.

I want to attach the shelving to a drywall, will this be ok?

Vere shelving can be attached to dry walls. If this is your intention, please let us know so that we can supply the correct set of fittings. Naturally dry walling is not as strong as brick or concrete and so we would advise not to load the shelves with excessive weight. We recommend applying common sense in this instance, or contact us for more specific feedback.

My wall has a very uneven surface, will this be ok?

A smooth flat wall is the best surface on which to attach Vere rails. If your wall has a very uneven texture, we cannot guarantee that the shelves will hang neatly on the rails. We recommend applying common sense in this instance, or contact us for more specific feedback.

Care

How do I clean my shelves?

Keep your shelves looking brand new by regularly dusting with a soft dry cloth or feather duster. For anything more substantial than dust use a soft damp cloth and if necessary, a small drop of sunlight liquid. With sensible use, your shelf surfaces will remain pristine for many years to come.

How can I avoid dents, chips and scratches?

Wood has a natural softness, which is one of its most attractive characteristics. This however makes it susceptible to dents and scratches. Like with any wooden product we advise that you take care when reconfiguring your shelf set up, and avoid sliding objects on the shelf surfaces, or carelessly placing objects with hard, sharp edges. Your Vere shelves are a high quality product and have been made to last, treating them with care will ensure they remain in perfect condition for many, many years.

Will my shelves be damaged by sunlight?

Over exposure to direct sunlight may result in a slight yellowing of the wood over a long period time.
